Simple Problem Solving Questions and Answers.
As we receive many telephone calls regarding small problems that could easily be fixed by a handy owner, we are going to outline some of the most common questions with answers for you, that may save you money and anguish.
1 Question: The rollers are slipping on the tyres when wet and when I tighten it up, they still slip.
Answer: When your rollers are fully retracted, the gap between the roller and the tyre at the narrowest point should be 15mm. If it is not, you will need to adjust the movers to this setting. This is done by undoing the four 13mm nuts on the plate and then sliding the whole mover assembly hard up against the small 15mm wooden block that was supplied to you. You then tighten the four 13mm nuts to 30 - 40nm torque and bring the solid steel block up hard against the back of the plate. These are 17mm bolts and an open ring spanner would do the job for you. Having done that, you must do the same on the other side. You have now brought the system back to recommended factory settings. It is important to check your tyre pressures also at this point. We recommend that your tyre pressures are between 40 and 45psi.
2 Question: When I stand in front of the caravan the movers seem to be stopping at irregular intervals?
Answer: This could be due to a number of reasons, but the main one is the aerial on the receiver box in your caravan must stick out away from the aluminum box and not touch any other objects. It is also important that when you travel, you do not store items around the receiver, as during transit they could damage the wiring as well as the aerial.
3 Question: While going up my driveway the mover suddenly stops and will not move again.
Answer: What has happened here is a built in safety feature. If the load is greater than what the system is set for the relays will switch off all power to the motors and the only way to get moving again is to turn the main switch off and then on again as well as switch your remote on again. It means that you have exceeded the limit and this could be caused by a steep climb or your jockey wheel is jamming the movement of the caravan. If you are trying to get up a gutter it is advisable to approach the curb at an angle and get one wheel on the curb first before the other one. Doing both together is what is causing the overload problem....try it!
4 Question: while traveling we noticed that when we tried to use the mover that they were not working well.
Answer: This could be due to your battery not being charged fully. As most caravans have a deep cycle 100AH battery, it is important to have a trickle charger on this whenever you are stationary. If you do not do this a deep cycle battery can be damaged and a replacement battery can be expensive. Our suggestion is to have it charged as soon as you reach your destination and leave it charging until you leave. If you have no power available, either have a solar system or use a cheaper alternative, by using your vehicle to charge the battery while in travel mode using an Anderson plug.
5 Question: I just returned from a trip and have been on some rough roads and now one of motors is not working.
Answer: This is a simple answer. One of the wires has come away from the motor and this is mainly due to a branch of a tree getting caught under your caravan and pulling the wires away from the motor. A nylon strap is used to hold the wires connected to the motors, but in such circumstances it is possible to break these and pull the wires away. Simply reconnect the wire and use a new cable tie to hold it all in place. Now if this is not the reason, please check that all the wires are connected to the radio box and that none of your camping gear has pulled any wires free from the radio.
6 Question: Haven't used our caravan for a while and we now find that the remote is not working.
Answer: This has occurred many times where people forget the procedure and ring me to find out what is wrong, well it is quite simple. After you turn on the main switch you should hear a click of the power in the relays. The next thing is to engage the rollers on the wheels and then double press the red button on the remote. Again you will hear the engagement of the relays informing you that the radio and transmitter have paired. The red light will stay on and the mover is ready to be moved. If you don't press any of the buttons, the remote will switch off automatically after 20 seconds and you will need to double click it again to activate it.
7 Question: I have just installed a Reich ECO Twin Mover and find that the remote is not working the way it should?
Answer: First check that you have the supplied cable installed between the Master and Slave unit correctly. If so and the unit still doesn't operate the way it should, remove the covers of both the Master and the Slave and check to see if the jumper blocks are in the correct spots.
