INSTALLATION AND USER INSTRUCTIONS
FOR REICH ECO MOVER
MECHANICAL
- Make sure the caravan is level and stable, safe to work under and the power is switched off.
- Check if the caravan is suitable and if you have to fit the mover in front or behind the wheels.
- Unpack the mover kit, lay all the parts out and check that everything is supplied.
- Mover should be flush with the outside of the wheels; if needed cut portion of connection tube, this tube must be as far as possible inside the movers, min. 300mm.
- Measure for height, cut the bracket if required.
- Rollers should be at the centre of the wheels or as close as possible.
- Bolt holes should be drilled in the chassis beam, holes must be same size as the bolt diameter (9mm), so a very tight fit is achieved.
- Use the supplied wood (15mm) block for the distance between the retracted rollers and tires.
- Keep all nuts tight until the above is double-checked, adjust if needed.
- Install small connection axle rod between motors, use heat sock against joint rattles.
- Tighten all bolts 30Nm or as per instruction booklet.(available online for printout)
ELECTRICAL
- Make sure all power is disconnected.
- Choose suitable place for the control box, not far from battery (within a meter) but reasonable accessible.
- Plan also the place for the main switch (inside or outside if it’s a pop-up).
- Open the control box and fix the control box, drill a 20mm hole for cables to go through floor; make sure it is a safe place to drill.
- Lay out the 6mm cables for left and right motors, keep left and right cables the same length, but no longer than needed.
- Remember: electrical installation for movers installed in front or behind the wheels are different. Check your wiring diagram in the back of the booklet!
- Fix cables to the control box and motors. See wiring diagram in the back of booklet.
- Lay out 10mm cable from the control box to main switch (positive cable) and to the battery. See wiring diagram.
- Protect all cables with insulation sleeves and fix with sufficient cable clamps.
STARTING
- Engage the rollers to the tires, either by hand with wheel brace, cordless drill with adaptor. Take off handbrake!
- Switch on main switch and activate the remote control by double clicking on/off switch, if not in use the remote will only stay activated for 20 seconds.
- If remote control needs resetting, see your instruction booklet.
- Remember 85% of all failures are because of a weak battery or loose connections.
The Reich Company will replace faulty parts for 2 years after purchase under normal use, but can take no responsibilities for a faulty installation.
Below is a quick list of requirements for a field fitting of the Reich ECO Mover System.
- Make sure that the mounting bracket plates & bolts are supplied.
- If the movers must be fitted at the rear of the springs (shackle ends), please ensure that the gap between roller and tire is 20mm to 25mm not 15mm as shown in the manual. The reason for this is that springs settle and on rough roads the rollers and tires could make contact. The mover should be fitted at the eye end (front of tires) of the springs and the normal 15mm distance applies in most circumstances.
- In a dual wheel setup it can only be one way.
- After working out the correct distance from the bottom of the mounting bracket to the centre of the axle on the caravan, drill 2 holes in each mounting bracket and secure mounting bracket with the 9mm bolts, using locking nuts and washers.
- It is required to have a full set of metric sockets as well as a set of ring spanners.
- It is also a requirement to have a set of allan keys.
- A good electric 2 speed drill and a pilot drill as well as a long 9mm drill.
- A 50mm hole saw and round file is also required for the installation of main switch cover.
- A hammer and centre punch with marking pen are also required.
- An angle grinder fitted with cutting disk to modify and cut the mounting brackets.
- Make sure the caravan is on a level concrete slab. Do not lift wheels of the ground as this would alter the geometry of the springs in relation to the brackets.
- Make sure that the caravan is secured with support blocks. Working under the caravan without secure blocks is dangerous.
- Take all parts out of the packing boxes and arrange them on the floor in front of you.
- Read the installation of the mechanical part of the manual carefully and use the fitting instructions supplied.
The fitting of the electrics can be done by anyone, however I must stress that extreme care has to be taken of the main connections to a live battery and should be the last thing to be done, making sure that all connections are in the right places first. If you are not sure, please contact an Auto Electrician and have him check the system. Wrong installation of the electrics is not covered by your Reich ECO Mover warranty.
- Make sure the battery has a 100amp hour rating as a recommended minimum.
- Wire stripper and a crimping pliers set are required.
- Sealing material are required, to make things water & dust proof.
- Mount the control box as close as possible to the battery, as the supplied battery wires are not very long and must not exceed their length.
- Mount the electronic control box with the screws supplied, making sure you have good access to it at anytime.
- As your ECO Move Control comes supplied with a lockable switch, mount this between the active (red) wire and the battery. The switch should be easily accessible from the outside of the caravan in the case of the caravan being a pop-up. In a normal caravan the switch is mounted close to the battery. The shorter the red cable between the battery and control box the better.
- In the case of a Reich ECO Twin 4WD system, make sure that the master and slave control boxes are close together. The battery positive(red) and negative (black) lead to the master control box first and are piggy backed from there to the slave control box. The master and slave control boxes are linked with a special cable, supplied in the kit. While the covers are of the master and slave control boxes, please check that the jumper blocks are in the right place. You can find information on this by visiting another page on the website called “Jumper Block settings”
- The polarity on the rear drive motors means that the positive(red) cable is connected to the negative clip on the motor and the negative(black) is connected to the positive(red dot)clip on the motor. In the case of a Reich ECO twin 4WD unit or the mover is fitted in front of the wheels the reverse is adopted. If not sure, please check your warranty book, as it has a wiring diagram on the back illustrating the correct wiring connections as described above. This will make the motors run the correct way.
- Read the electrical installation part of the manual carefully and use the fitting instructions supplied.
I hope the above is easy to understand and the main problem I can see is the fitment of the mounting brackets. In some vans these mounting brackets will need to be cut down to suit, hence the requirement of an angle grinder fitted with a cutting disk. It will also be necessary on some leaf spring caravans to fit spacers between the mounting bracket and the chassis, so allow extra length in the hi-tensile bolts to compensate for this. The spacers are required to ensure that the mounting brackets don't interfere with the caravan spring setup.
It can also at times create problems with a fitted water tank, that is in the way, as they are fitted under the caravans. As I have fitted an Reich ECO Mover in that situation, I managed to solve it by moving the water tank backwards/forwards. I suggest that the installer looks at the caravan first before starting to fit the ECO Move Control system.
